The focus of the Casey Foundation has long been about helping children thrive in safe, nurturing, and strong families. In 1976, Casey Family Services was started as a fully licensed, non-profit child welfare agency dedicated to helping the most abused and neglected children. Headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, Casey Family Services has more than 300 staff members in seven states: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Over the past 30 years, Casey Family Services has evolved from offering foster care to also supporting safe, stable families as children develop lifelong family relationships.
Casey Family Services supports a continuum of services and maintains many programs including:
- Foster care
- Family advocacy, preservation, and reunification
- Adoption support and other post-permanency services
- Community-based family strengthening
- Family resource centers
- Life skills training
- Teen parent/young family support
- Youth employment support;
- Technical assistance, consultation, and training
As the largest child and family service provider investment for the Casey Foundation, Casey Family Services is committed not only to improving the lives of children, but also to using the lessons learned to improve child welfare practice and policy at the local, state, and national level.
Through the Casey Center for Effective Child Welfare Practice, Casey Family Services engages its own practitioners to provide technical assistance, consultation and training across the nation. The Casey Center shares lessons learned and promotes promising practice strategies related to achieving permanence for children and youth in foster care.
