Each day, working poor parents across the country are forced to make hard choices: go to work when a child is sick or stay home and lose a job, pay the rent of buy food, or use the hospital emergency room for routine medical care or pay for unaffordable health insurance. We believe that improving the lives of disadvantaged children requires a combination of strategies designed to strengthen families and neighborhoods. Ensuring family economic security is an important part of this approach.

Family Economic Success
Family Economic Success is an approach that helps low-income working families build strong financial futures in strong neighborhoods by integrating three key components: workforce development, family economic support, and community investment.

Income Security
The Casey Foundation’s investments in income security are advancing policies and programs that help low-income families move from poverty to financial stability. This work includes encouraging the expansion of the state Earned Income Tax Credit, ensuring paid leave policies, and providing real incentives for former welfare recipients transitioning to employment.

Making Connections
Making Connections is Casey’s multi-year, multi-site effort to improve the lives and prospects of families and children living in some of America’s toughest neighborhoods. It is based on the premise that children do well when their families are strong and families do better when they live in supportive communities.

Rural Family Economic Success
Far too many low-income parents in rural communities find severe obstacles in their path toward financial stability and success. Casey's Rural Family Economic Success framework offers strategies to help rural families increase their income, stabilize their finances, acquire assets, and build wealth.
